- STRATEGIC OVERVIEW
We’ve released the Active Lincolnshire annual impact report for 2021-22. Alongside reporting on the impacts achieved through collaborative partner working, the report recognises the challenges faced in a year where restrictions still existed, fluctuating and apply pressures on residents and the physical activity and sport sector alike.
The Active Lincolnshire Sport and Physical Activity Awards took place on the 3rd November, recognising 14 incredible winners and highlighting the stories of a further 27 runners up. Lincolnshire is incredibly lucky to have so many people providing a varied offer of opportunities that meet the needs of residents facing the highest inequalities to leading an active life.
The initial workshop for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles of Let’s Move Lincolnshire was on 18th October, hosted at the City of Lincoln Council officers. Bringing together representative from 15+ organisations that work across the county, with communities that face greater inequalities to leading active lives including organisations working with disabled people, people from ethnically diverse communities, gender and sexuality, and lower socio-economic groups. The Together Fund has announced a further £70,000 of funding available for clubs to apply for in January and February 2023. You can begin applications now for the panel to review at the end of January. Our most recent project to be funded is Wragby Warhammers Baseball Club. Please share these stories as we hope they will encourage others to apply for funding.
We met with a core group of regional national governing body representative to discuss the Uniting the Movement strategy from each organisational perspective looking for common purpose, opportunities to collaborate and investigating big issues including cost-of-living, workforce (skills and recruitment) and the Levelling Up agenda.
This month’s leisure leads meeting focused on the challenges faced by public leisure in meeting the net zero targets and navigating the energy crisis. Community Leisure UK presented on their work supporting public leisure and environmental sustainability, highlighting challenges, practical solutions, and sharing case studies from their member bodies. They also talked through their work with the Carbon Trust delivering environmental action training to CLUK members and partners. Read our blog on the current challenges in reducing emissions in a rising energy costs world.
- CONNECTING WITH HEALTH AND WELLBEING
In the latest episode of ‘Tale of Two Counties Health Podcast’ Matt and Charlie are joined by Sue Jarvis (Maternity and Neonatal Programme Manager at NHS Lincolnshire ICB) to talk about the work in Lincolnshire connecting physical activity to maternity services. Sue explores the topic through the lenses of policy, workforce, patients and processes, providing advice on considerations other health care professions can make to create similar change in their pathways.
Active Lincolnshire attended the Live Longer Better National Conference as one of the 24 Active Partnerships with a focus on active ageing. Jo Blackwell from the University of Lincoln delivered a lightening talk for the event sharing information on the 6-month research project on Active Ageing and Physical Activity. We are currently exploring how we grow this work in 2023 and welcome any partners with a focus on older adults getting in touch with Lorna Leach.
- CREATING POSITIVE EXPERIENCES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
The children and young people network meets later this month to work through the next phase of developing the theory of change for the children and young people strand of the Let’s Move Lincolnshire strategy. The next phase of the Habit 5 led research is now live. The survey is for children and young people and is open until end 30 November. Please share.
Over the next 3 years 27 schools in Lincolnshire will receive funding as part of the Opening School Facilities programme to open the school estate beyond the school day, connecting the local community and increasing the opportunities available. We are currently out to tender for a programme manager to lead this work across the county. Deadline is the 23:59 on Sunday 20th November.
Our work in Mablethorpe began when several Active Lincolnshire staff spent the day exploring the town, meeting service providers and residents, and learning about the place through their experiences and views. This broke down some pre-conceptions, reframed realities, and identified opportunities to create system change. Read more in the Active People and Place Manager Blog.
That was followed later in the month when strategic partners from the local authority, health and communities’ sectors, police, Lincolnshire wildlife trust and the local leisure operator met at the Coastal Centre in Mablethorpe to explore the development of a place-based physical activity movement. The event included a walking tour of the areas receiving Towns Fund investment, and presentations from Withernsea Local Delivery Pilot and Active Lincolnshire.
At the Lincolnshire Sport and Physical Activity Awards, we announced a new countywide bike donation scheme. Over the last 6-weeks we’ve been conducting a scoping exercise and applied an evidence-based approach to decision making to understand demand, infrastructure, and identify opportunities. The project will deliver through local hubs that include bike donation, restoration and maintenance, skills training and qualifications, and learn to ride programmes. We are seeking partners who are interested in taking an active role in the project. Please contact Emma Tatlow.
Active Lincolnshire continue to meet with strategic partners to develop new ways of working, create collaborative solutions to tackle big issues. This month we’ve attended:
- Greater Lincolnshire Nature Partnership to learn more about the Local Nature Recovery Strategies and consider the role of the physical activity and sport sector in this agenda.
- The Integrated Care Partnership Strategy Planning and Development workshop to ensure that physical activity is considered in the development of this important document for the future health and care sector and partners in Lincolnshire.
