Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire (AUKLSL), in partnership with Lincs Independent Living Partnership (LILP) (a consortium consisting of AUKLSL, St Barnabas’ Hospice, LACE Housing Association and Lincolnshire Housing Partnership), will be hosting a Dementia Conference on Wednesday 11^th October 2023 at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln.

This event will provide some key information and data around dementia and showcase all of the fantastic care and support services which are available for people living with dementia and their carers in Lincolnshire, including AUKLSL’s brand new dementia support service, ‘I Forget’. The day will include various presentations and workshops, delivered by key partners in the health and care system, as well as a special performance by Vicky McClure’s Dementia Choir. We will also have a Dementia Bus on site, which will be open for all to take part in. This is a short, virtual tour which aims to give us some insight into the sensory experience of people living with dementia.

Bishops Grosseteste University, Longdales Rd, Lincoln LN1 3DY – 10 am to 3 pm  

Healthwatch Lincolnshire is pleased to announce that our Forward Vision Event is being held on 31st October 2023 in Lincoln. 

Following a short presentation of the Healthwatch Lincolnshire annual report and plans for the next year, we will again be bringing together Lincolnshire’s Health and Social Care leaders to discuss their challenges but also the opportunity to share the positive work that is being done throughout our county, how the people of Lincolnshire can help drive positive change and an opportunity for the public to ask questions. 

The panel will include:

John Turner – Chief Executive, NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board

Glen Garrod – Executive Director for Adult Care and Community Wellbeing, Lincolnshire County Council

Andrew Morgan – Chief Executive, United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) and Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS)

Sarah Connery – Chief Executive, Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT)

Back in 2018 Healthwatch Lincolnshire hosted the 2020 Vision event encouraging the public to come and meet, listen, debate, and question senior county NHS Leaders, to increase awareness of the healthcare challenges and most importantly changes they were facing by 2020. Fast forward to 2023 and many challenges remain but additionally, the landscape of health and social care has changed, for instance, in 2022 the Integrated Care System was established. 

This event will be held in the lecture theatre at Bishop Grosseteste University, with an additional room for stallholders where the public can find helpful information and advice.   There will be opportunities to network and meet key service providers in addition to hearing the latest information from the Panel of Experts.

NOTE: Drinks and a light lunch/buffet will be provided

Lincolnshire’s Bike Donation Scheme – Louth

Join us on 8^th September at Meridian Leisure Centre for a casual bike ride around Louth to celebrate the Wheels for Life campaign launched by Active Lincolnshire.

Wheels for Life is a new scheme for bike donation which will take pre-loved bikes and bring them back to a usable condition for them to be gifted to people who do not have the opportunity to enjoy the varied benefits of owning and using a bike. The first hub has now launched in Louth and will be the first of many across the county that will be open to take donations and be refurbishing bikes.

To celebrate the launch, the Wheels for Life team along with Low Carbon Louth will be leading a bike ride around Louth that will welcome everyone, no matter what your cycling ability is, just come along and enjoy the ride! The circular route will be a maximum of 5 miles and is predominantly flat. We’ll stop on the way round at Low Carbon Louth to see the hub and get refreshments in the Youth Centre before continuing on.  

Bring your own bike or if you haven’t got a bike, or can’t get it there, let us know and we will bring along some refurbished bikes that have been donated through the scheme for you to ride. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing for the weather, and if you can, please wear a helmet. 

Come and have a chat with some of the people involved in the scheme from Active Lincolnshire, Low Carbon Louth and other supporting partners. We’ll be more than happy to talk about the campaign and how it will benefit Louth and the people across other areas of Lincolnshire.  

Arrive from 10:15am for the ride to start at 10:30am.

Department of Health and Social Care

DHSC has launched a £10m Suicide Prevention VCSE Grant Fund for 2023/24 and 2024/25, to support suicide prevention activities delivered in England by non-profit organisations. 

The application period is open until 1^st October. Applications must be made online via the Find a Grant portal here unless exceptional circumstances apply. 

Guidance can be found here, which provides full details of the objectives of the fund, the eligibility criteria, and details on the application process itself.

Horncastle and Spalding Community Action Mapping

Children’s Links and LVET have been offered the chance to map community action in Horncastle and Spalding as part of a Lottery funded project, called Understory. 

Understory is a tool for us to map the network of relationships that support our organisations and people. It builds community strength by helping a community to understand itself better. The map will enable us to see who we have here in the community, what goals everyone is working towards, and how each of our organisations connect. This information will tell us how to build stronger ties between people and stronger collaborations around our goals.

It is important to note that Understory explores the relationships between people – the trusted working relationships that allow us to build community power. It’s a wealth of research and understanding that doesn’t exist yet and Understory hope to influence funders and policymakers with aggregate data in the years to come, so it’s an exciting project to be part of. The map will be made together in an online / in-person meeting – with the option to take part in whichever version you are most comfortable with. We would like as many local organisations to participate as possible. Details of where and when will be sent out closer to the time. In the meantime, if you would like to take part, or be kept up to date with information, please send an email to emily.ward@lvet.org.
