Home Share Survey
If Homeshare is new to you, it’s a shared living model that enables unrelated people to share their lives for mutual gain. Homeshare usually involves an older person who would benefit from both companionship and some low-level support at home and someone in need of affordable accommodation who is happy to help around the house. Homesharers are often younger people, students, or key public service workers who can’t afford housing where they work, are perhaps saving for a deposit or have recently moved to a new area. In return for low-cost accommodation the Homesharer provides a minimum of 10 hours of support each week to the Householder (cooking, laundry, food shopping, appointments etc). Homeshare is a way for people to share lives and homes for mutual benefit. Homeshare reduces loneliness and tackles the housing crisis by matching people with spare rooms, with people are happy to chat, lend a hand around the house and live sociably.
While Homeshare is open to anyone, it usually involves an older person in need of companionship and often some low-level practical support around the home and younger people struggling to afford housing where they work and study. In return for low-cost accommodation the younger person sharing their home provides companionship and around 10 hours of practical support each week, such as cooking, gardening, and cleaning.
People are taking part in Homeshare across the UK but there are currently no services in Lincolnshire. We have been commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council to understand the potential for a new Homeshare service in the county.
