We’re looking for help, advice and contact information for how Inspired Equine Assisted Learning CIC (IdEAL) can work in co‑production with military charities and veteran support organisations to deliver impactful, evidence‑based equine‑assisted learning programmes.
Military veterans often navigate complex transitions when leaving service, particularly around identity, emotional regulation, confidence and social reconnection. Many have spent years in environments where decisions were externally directed, and structure was embedded into daily life. Effective engagement therefore requires clear purpose, predictable structure, and collaborative decision‑making that respects autonomy while offering supportive guidance.
Current research demonstrates the value of animal‑assisted interventions for veterans. Equine‑assisted programmes have been shown to reduce PTSD severity by 22.6%, with an average 12.46‑point reduction on PCL‑5 scores. Broader animal‑assisted therapy studies report anxiety reductions of up to 65%, and improvements in mood, attention and quality of life ranging from 15–45%. Structured weekly sessions of 31–60 minutes, (common in dog‑assisted NHS programmes), show strong attendance and sustained engagement, indicating that relational, animal‑based activities resonate well with veteran communities.
IdEAL’s equine‑assisted learning model provides experiential, meaningful‑occupation‑based support that complements existing veteran services. Horses offer immediate, non‑judgemental feedback, helping participants recognise tension, regulate emotions and rebuild confidence. Sessions can be co‑designed with partner organisations to include purpose‑driven objectives, optional goal‑setting, and structured progression pathways that align with veterans’ needs for clarity and predictability.
By combining IdEAL’s experiential approach with the expertise of military charities, we’re looking to create a cohesive, community‑rooted pathway that strengthens veteran wellbeing, enhances community mental health, and delivers measurable, meaningful outcomes through equine‑assisted learning.
