Keynote Speakers
Ed Wallis
We’re delighted to announce Ed Wallis, Director of Policy and Engagement at Locality as one of our Keynote Speakers!
Keep it Local for Better Health
Over the past decade, Locality has developed the ‘Keep it Local’ approach, supporting the local public sector to build long-term partnerships with community organisations. 18 councils have endorsed Locality’s Keep it Local principles and joined the Keep it Local Network, and now West Yorkshire has become the first Integrated Care Board to adopt the approach. Government is increasingly speaking this language too, with a focus on prevention, neighbourhood health and local procurement. So how do we catalyse this moment to make a decisive step towards community-powered health and wellbeing?

Ed Wallis
A bit about Ed:
Ed leads all areas of Locality’s influential policy, research and public affairs work, and is responsible for the development of Locality’s membership network of over 2000 community organisations.
Ed is also a Board Member at Social Investment Business, one of the key organisations in the UK’s social investment market. Before joining Locality, Ed was senior research fellow and editorial director at the Fabian Society, one of the UK’s leading think tanks, and a political speechwriter.
Stephanie Laing
We’re excited to announce Stephanie Laing, Comedian turned Community Organiser turned Comedian as one of our Keynote Speakers!
When she first became a community organiser, she assumed that she would have to leave ‘Comedian Stephanie’ at the door, but in fact discovered that having a sense of humour was a powerful tool in the fight to make real change on social justice issues. Her talks discusses the value in finding what’s ridiculous in the structures we challenge, and the need for joy to make movements sustainable and avoid burnout. Sharing stories from her career as a community organiser and comedian, she hopes to show that we don’t have to sacrifice our happiness in order to make the world a better place.

A bit about Stephanie:
Stephanie has years of experience in working with organisations to improve their internal culture. She has a Masters Degree in Community Organising from Queen Mary University, and ran the Milton Keynes branch of the charity Citizens UK for 3 years. Citizens UK works to strengthen civil society organisations, and develop local leaders to engage more meaningfully in democracy.
