- STRATEGIC OVERVIEW
The Physical Activity and Sport, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group met last month and have signed of a two-tier approach to their work. The Advisory group will meet quarterly to prioritise the next quarters operational group focus, which centres on understanding a key audience and developing action plans to bring about positive changes. In between advisory group meetings the members will work on advocacy, developing resources, collaborating on project developments, reviewing and improving campaign content and focus.
We are pleased to announce that we’ve released the LORIC research ‘Understanding the Economic Impact and Future Potential of Greater Lincolnshire’s Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure Sector’. The report shows that the sector has a combined gross value added of approximately £788 million per annum. It highlights skills needed to meet future population needs and explores the impact of covid and cost-of-living on the sector.
The latest Together Fund projects are £4930 for Lincolnshire Tennis to support wheelchair tennis, £4,247 to the Holiday Activities and Food programme co-ordinated by Lincolnshire County Council and delivered through local organisations. The funding comes to a close this month, with over £130,000 allocated since April 2022.

- CONNECTING WITH HEALTH AND WELLBEING
As part of our commitment to share the work of the Let’s Move Lincolnshire partners we’re pleased to share the stories behind our 2022 Let’s Move Lincolnshire Award finalists including Fighting Fit which supports people living with cancer to be active.
We’ve been busy promoting the Pre and Post Natal work in Lincolnshire with Donna Sutton joining Yvonne McGrath from ULHT on BBC Radio Lincolnshire to talk about the benefits of being active during pregnancy and postnatally. We’re organising a This Mum Moves Ambassador certified online training course for late March suitable for healthcare and physical activity workforce. Finally, we are organising a photoshoot to create a library of images that reflect Lincolnshire mums and mums-to-be for use in marketing, let Donna know if you can assist.
- CREATING POSITIVE EXPERIENCES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
There’s a lot of behind the scenes working taking place across the CYP theme of Let’s Move Lincolnshire with several projects entering the final stages including:
- M2 – A school-based programme that supports primary age girls with lower levels of confidence participating in physical activity to build their confidence and long-term resilience through a co-ordinated twice weekly mental health and physical activity approach.
- Gamification – Digital product that engages children, young people and families to explore local spaces, places and routes through incentivisation and behaviour change.
- Holiday Activities and Food delivery partners – Supporting providers with less experience offering physical activity as part of their programme to embed into their delivery approach.
- Opening School Facilities – Nearly £1 million has been allocated to Lincolnshire between now and March 2025 to support schools to open up facilities beyond the school day for use by local communities for physical activity. The investment is focused on schools in with higher percentages of pupils who are eligible for free school meals, from less affluent families, culturally diverse and pupils with special educational needs.
School Games for the academic year 2022-23 is being developed in collaboration with the school games organisers from across the county, with a programme of events being offered that provide children and young people who for many reasons are less active with opportunities to represent their schools and develop their skills.
Active Lincolnshire have joined the Poverty Truth Commission linked to LocalMotion Lincoln. The commission brings together the community and civic leaders to explore the question ‘What if people who struggle against poverty were involved in making decisions about tackling poverty?’ Collectively we are working to understand the nature of poverty, its underlying issues and explore creative ways to address them. It’s vital that physical activity sector recognises its place in this work and adapts to better tackle the inequalities those in poverty experience.
Our #StrideAndRide campaign continues to showcase walking and cycling benefits on the Let’s Move Lincolnshire website and social media channels. We have developed a resource pack off the back of early results into the best messaging and imagery, including feedback from the physical activity and sport, equality, diversity and inclusion advisory group. Wheels for Life our community-centred bike donation scheme is progressing with community partners coming together in Louth for our first hub, due to launch soon.
Active Lincolnshire jointly hosted an East Midlands Uniting the Movement event for Sport England funded system partners working, or interested in working, in at least one of the East Midlands Counties. System partners including national governing bodies of sport, health organisations e.g. Sense, workforce agencies including UK Coaching and CIMSPA, organisations working with protected characteristic groups e.g. Dwarf Sport Association, and sport for development organisations including Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and Sported. The event was focused on connection, collaboration and building relationships around a place-based agenda. Exploring opportunities to bring the physical activity and sport sector closer together to ensure greater impact with existing resource.
