Chatting with Carers
Come along for a chat with Amanda, Sash and Janet who are all carers for loved ones in their family and social groups.
• Amanda is mum to Ellie and a recent grandmother to Isla. Ellie has struggled with her mental health for several years and Amanda has always been there to support and care for her daughter through difficult times.
• Sash is the carer for several people in her family, who have a variety of challenges from MS, dementia, paraplegic and mental health, and autism. Sash had to make the difficult decision to give up her career to take on a full time caring role for her family members.
• Janet is mum to Katie, who has a severe learning disability, autism and is in wheelchair. Katie uses Makaton sign language. She lives in her own property, with 24hr support. Janet still has a lot of involvement in caring for Katie but recognises that this needs to reduce over time.

Over the years they have all experienced good, challenging, and difficult conversations with the people they care for and the professionals and practitioners who are and should be there to advise and support.
They are huge advocates for the voice of the carer. They are all involved in co production work and want to work together with the health and care system to make things better for others.
This is an opportunity to come and chat with one another, in a safe space, share experiences, learning, knowledge and expertise, and hopefully take away something new that will help to develop your practice and understanding of the complexities and the highs and lows of being a carer for people you love.
