Active Lincolnshire
You can read the full Let’s Move Lincolnshire strategy here. Partners can pledge their commitment to achieving the strategy here.
- STRATEGIC OVERVIEW
One of the guiding principles underpinning the Let’s Move Lincolnshire strategy focuses on Insight, Evaluation and Shared Measures. We have developed a learning framework and are refining the methodology, and tools that allow consistent and simple ways to report impact. One of these measures is social value and we’ve had training on the Social Value Engine.
Ahead of funding rounds in January and February we ran a Together Fund webinar to support local organisations to decide if this funding is for them. You can watch the webinar here. Since the last update we’ve awarded funding for the Ever Young Club (£3,277), Cherry Judo Club (£4,036), Boston Judo Club (£1290), and Active Nation (£5000) to set up a new parkrun in Lincoln.
Cost-of Living Support. We have developed a one stop shop on the Active Lincolnshire website for finding information, insights, resources, funding, and case studies that will support the organisations who provide activities who face the challenges of raising energy costs and cost-of-living impacts on paid and voluntary workforce. On the Let’s Move Lincolnshire website we’ll be adding information on ways to keep active for free and we’ve already added a ‘free and low cost’ filter to the Activity Finder. We are seeking examples from physical activity and sport organisations and businesses on how they’ve reduced their own costs and/or supported residents facing financial challenges to continue to be active. Please contact Dom if you have a story to tell.
- CONNECTING WITH HEALTH AND WELLBEING
In the latest episode of ‘Tale of Two Counties Health Podcast’ Matt and Charlie are joined by Dr Rebecca O’Connor of ROC Research to discuss how we monitor and evaluate our work connecting physical activity with health partners. Lincolnshire’s work has developed a model that we are testing with our latest work in maternity services and social prescribing.
As part of our work in maternity Dr Marlize DeVivo industry expert and Co-CEO of The Active Pregnancy Foundation delivered a webinar exploring the important role of physical activity in pregnancy and beyond. The session was for physical activity providers looking to support women to access safe and appropriate physical activity opportunities during pregnancy. Any providers wanting to get involved can read the write-up for more information and contact Donna Sutton.
We delivered our first Clinical Champions Training for healthcare professionals on 30th November. This training developed by OHID and delivered by a healthcare profession is a peer-to-peer programme that provides evidence-based resources to increase confidence and support clinical practice in line with guidance. Giving clinicians the knowledge, skills and confidence to have conversations about physical activity with their patients.
Alongside a guest blog from Nigel Stephenson of One You Lincolnshire on the outcome of the MOVE-ember challenge and what to expect from the January Heart & Sole programme, we have the latest blog from Matt Evans on how working with social prescribing has created opportunities within the Musculoskeletal (MSK) clinical pathway.
- CREATING POSITIVE EXPERIENCES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Greg Brown our Children and Young People lead at Active Lincolnshire has been writing about the collaborative approach we’re taking to develop this strand of the Let’s Move Lincolnshire strategy. On top of releasing the findings of our commissioned research, in the next two months we’ll be announcing exciting new work opening up school facilities and several deliver projects focused on improving mental health, confidence and resilience, as well as the new school games programme.
We’re also in the process of commissioning a service provider for an innovative digital product that engages with children, young people and families via mobile or digitally interactive platforms to incentivise physical activity to boost mental health and drive behaviour change.
We share the latest on connected communities in our focused strategy update which shares some detail behind our understanding places approach. We’ve been out and about meeting communities, exploring localities and attending stakeholder events including the Empowering Health Communities event in Boston and Skegness Community Connections event. You can also read the Director of Transformation’s blog ‘This Place Matters’ explaining how we are working with residents and the system to support community-led change in Mablethorpe.
Our community-centred bike donation scheme will deliver through local hubs that include bike donation, restoration and maintenance, skills training and qualifications, and learn to ride programmes. We are seeking partners who are interested in taking an active role in the project as collection points, volunteers, or community partners. Please contact Jon Hughes.
The #StrideAndRide campaign, promoting walking and cycling as cost-effective activity is currently live and we are seeking partners to add walking and cycling opportunities to the Let’s Move Lincolnshire website. We are hosting a webinar on the afternoon of the 17th January to explore the learning from the test and learn phase and provide partners who promote walking and cycling with the tools to increase engagement. Contact Paul for an invitation.
Active Lincolnshire continue to meet with strategic partners to develop new ways of working, to create collaborative solutions to tackle big issues. During Nov-Dec 22 we’ve been responding to the Integrated Care Partnership Strategy via our role on the planning and development group to ensure suitable measures, outputs and actions for physical activity are included in this important document for the future health and care sector and partners in Lincolnshire.
In December we met with the Housing team from South Kesteven to investigate the practical ways in which physical activity can be embedded into their ways of working. We started by gaining a better understand the lives of the residents they work with, the places they live and the connection points for residents with the council services. We’ve also met with Lincolnshire Football Association, Shine Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire YMCA, and One You Lincolnshire to align connections more closely across each organisation and find ways to increase impact. Read more on how we deliver the Agile Systems strand of the strategy in this blog.
