Developing Social Enterprise in Lincolnshire!
NETWORKING EVENTS
LVET will be running 4 hybrid networking events across the county, with the option of attending face to face or over Teams. There will be speakers from entrepreneurial organisations, showcasing their journeys and providing opportunities to explore different aspects of social enterprise.
These events are free to attend! They are suitable for anyone who has an interest in social enterprise at any stage of the journey, and those who’d like to find out more about social enterprise.

The theme and focus of this event is ‘Why Social Enterprise?’ and the journey to becoming a Social Enterprise Place. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about what a social enterprise is, and network with like-minded people at varying stages of the journey. The
event was on Thursday 19th October 2023 at 9.30am – 12.30pm at the Len Medlock Voluntary Centre, St Georges Road, Boston, PE21 9YB / MS Teams.

Insights from the Event:
We’ve held our first Developing Social Economy Networking Event! It was great to see people come together and talk all things social enterprise, with one group at the very beginning of their journey, contemplating whether become a social enterprise is their right next step!
We started off with some context behind why we are running the four networking sessions in Lincolnshire, and the links with the Social Economy Steering Group. It was great to see some of these partners in the room!
We also heard from Paul, LVET’s Managing Director, on his perspective on why social entrepreneurship is important to the Lincolnshire VCSE sector.
There were three fantastic speakers at the event:
- Allison Webb – Director of External Engagement at Bishop Grosseteste University. Allison spoke about the Lincolnshire Social Economy Hub and the Greater Lincolnshire Social Economy Academy, as well as where Lincolnshire is in becoming a Social Enterprise Place! You can see Allison’s slides here.
- Kay Purle – Lincolnshire Open Research and Innovation Centre (LORIC) Project Manager. Kay outlined the Social Economy Strategy for Greater Lincolnshire 2021 – 2023, sharing the 6 main aspects of the strategy as well as presenting interesting data. You can see Kay’s slides here.
- Nikki Cooke – Chief Executive Officer at LIVES. Nikki talked about making a difference in a ‘business like’ way, sharing practical insights in how they’ve adapted their ways of working to a Social Enterprise model. You can see Nikki’s slides here.

The theme of this event is ‘businesses that make a difference’, focusing on social value and how we can measure it. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about how you can showcase social value, and network with like-minded people at varying stages of the journey. The event was on Monday 13th November 2023 at 1pm – 4pm at the Tonic Health Hub, 6 Broadgate House, Westlode Street, Spalding, Lincs, PE11 2AF / MS Teams.

Insights from the event:
We’ve held our second Developing Social Enterprise Networking Event! The focus of this session was around ‘making a difference’, and was good to hear how we can measure the difference we make, as well as some practical learning from each other.
The session was introduced by Paul Gutherson, highlighting how important it is for us to understand what value we create through our activities. You can view the clip here.
We had two fascinating speakers at this event:
- Ivan Annibal – Rose Regeneration. Ivan presented a pragmatic journey around social value, outlining the principles of the Social Value Engine which can be used the measure social value, as well as talking through some real-life examples where social value has been evidenced. You can see Ivan’s slides here.
- Michael Morris – Chair of Trustees at Tonic Health. Michael spoke about how Tonic Health operate, with a business mindset in decision making and having a clear strategy in place, which has allowed them to move into a Social Enterprise model. Michael talked through real-life examples on things they have implemented and the difference it has made! You can se Michael’s slides here.
There were a lot of discussions after the presentations; people sharing ideas between each other, networking and learning about different organisations, and floating ideas around on different ways to generate income and evidence the social value of activities already happening! Event 3 - 'Show me the Money!' on Tuesday 23rd January 2024 - 9.30 am - 12.00 pm - Online Event Only
The theme of this event is ‘Show me the money!’, with a focus on funding, income generation and social investment. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about potential different income streams, and network with like-minded people at varying stages of the journey.
The event is on Tuesday 23rd January 2024 at 9.30am – 12.00pm. This event will be online only (recently changed on 22nd January 2024) and you are invited to join over MS Teams (link will be sent following registration).

We’ve held our third Developing Social Enterprise Networking Event! The focus of this session was around ‘Show me the money!’ and was fascinating to hear how organisations can think about how they could generate income differently, as well as some practical take-aways from the session,
The session was introduced by Paul Gutherson, outlining the benefits of not being solely reliant on grants, and diversifying funding.
We had three interesting speakers at this event:
- Chris Jackson – Purple Shoots. Chris talked about micro-finance and how Purple Shoots ‘fund the unfundable’, making small loans to enterprises with fixed percentage rates. There was a lot of discussion after he introduced Purple Shoots, and you can watch the recording here.
- Nichola Holderness – South and East Lincolnshire Partnership. Nichola talked about crowdfunding as a whole, including the benefits and how to pitch for funding, as well as projects and experiences so far using SpaceHive. You can view Nichola’s slides here.
- Neil King – Cert CIC. Neil talked about Social Investment, and why charities and social enterprises might use it to help them increase their impact. You can listen to an audio clip of Neil’s presentation here.

The theme of this event is ‘The Future of Social Enterprise in Lincolnshire’, with a focus on the journey so far as well as where we are going. It will also be an opportunity to learn more from the Peer Leadership Programme individuals, and network with like-minded people at varying stages of the journey.
The event is on Wednesday 27th of March 2024 at 9.30am – 12.30pm. The venue is Hill Holt Wood, Norton Disney, Lincoln LN6 9JP. This is a face to face only event,
