Children’s Links

Children’s Links is holding a charity Golf Day at Belton Woods to raise some much-needed funds to support the most important work we do.

Children’s Links is a national children’s, young peoples’ and community services charity. Our services include those that support babies, children, young people, their parents and carers, the communities they live in and other children and young people’s organisations.

We pride ourselves on our professional workforce and our expertise across many areas of service delivery for children and young people. Children’s Links has built its business on developing work to deal with gaps in services identified by our stakeholders, parents, children, funders and the wider community. As a direct result our services support babies, children, young people, their parents and carers, the communities they live in and other children and young people’s organisations. Some of our services include; Nurseries, Improving Child Family Arrangements, Toy Library, Play Ranger sessions, Building Better Opportunities, and much more!

We aim that our work will:

• Enable children, young people and their families to gain access to and choice of quality opportunities
• Improve information on issues that affect children and young peoples’ lives
• Enable people, employers and communities to respect and meet children and young peoples’ individual needs
• Enable people to make a difference to issues that affect their lives
• Make a positive difference to children and young people and communities who are often left out or excluded.

The Golf Day Belton Woods is a golfers’ haven, whether you’re a scratch player or take a more light-hearted approach to the game. Whether it is a fun dining experience fills you with joy,  or a day playing golf; you’ll be raising money to change the lives of vulnerable children and families.

This full day event will provide valuable insights, opportunities, and challenges into how personalisation reframes the relationships and conversations between people and the health and care system and demonstrating some of the excellent work that is happening right now in Lincolnshire.

• There will be a range of interactive workshops on the day.
• Listen to Dr Ollie Hart, GP, Owner of Sloan Medical Centre, Clinical Lead for Person Centred care at Sheffield ICB and Director of Peak Coaching.
• Hear from Tommy Whitelaw, National Lead for Carers and Outreach from Alliance Scotland, on his personal experience of caring for his mother, the challenges he faced and how the What Matters to ME Campaign began.

We will be building on the success of last year’s conference with nearly double the places available. The focus for this year is the importance of making every conversation count with people. It’s your space to share your experiences; to tell us what you need for personalisation to be successfully embedded in the system and to learn from the success and challenges of others.

The event is free to attend. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

We want your views on technology support in the home

Lincolnshire residents are being asked for their views about the use of technology to help maintain independence and manage care and support needs.

“We are looking at how the county council can use technology to support residents with social care needs”, said Councillor Wendy Bowkett, Executive Councillor for Adult Care and Public Health. “Technology is proving an increasingly important tool in supporting people to remain independent, whilst giving assurance to families and carers that their parents and elderly relatives are safe and well at home.”

Technology is providing useful support for many elderly and vulnerable people in the county but there is potential to do more and contribute to people’s health and wellbeing.

Moving Forward is a free support group for women who have experienced past
domestic abuse relationships. We meet at a safe, city centre location in Lincoln on
the first Tuesday in the month from 10-12 throughout the year as well as an evening
session on the 3rd Thursday of the month 6.30-8.30pm.

Visitors to the group will find it to be relaxed, friendly and are welcome to come on
an ‘as and when basis’ to receive support or to socialise. It is run by volunteers who
have experienced domestic abuse in some way, either professionally or personally or
have supported a friend or family member.

We have close links with many agencies and can signpost to these to get additional
support.

We are passionate about making a difference and know through experience that this
group can really help people to move forward with their lives.

Darkside Rising CIC is a non-profit, women’s health organisation based in Lincoln, providing specialist exercise and strength training services across 3 major programmes:

• Women who are neurodivergent
• Women who have complex health needs, such as those diagnosed with cancer, or neurological conditions
• Women going through specific life-changes, e.g., menopause or the postnatal period

We are working in partnership with the University of Lincoln, seeking funding to create an in-house Training Centre which will offer accredited Level 2 and 3 Personal Training qualifications and CPD courses to community organisations across Lincolnshire, completely free of charge.

Our aims are to:

• Support community organisations to upskill their staff and integrate physical activity opportunities into their work
• Ensure that physical activity is safe, accessible and personalised for everyone in our community
• Co-create training courses with those who have lived experience, to ensure that the courses are fit for purpose 
• Increase and improve health and wellbeing opportunities across the county

Help is now easier to find for local people thanks to the newly refreshed and updated Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Partnership website www.domesticabuselincolnshire.com.

It’s aimed at adults, children and young people who are either being abused or are using abusive behaviour, to offer support and advice, and signpost them to services locally and nationally.

Comments and ideas from survivors in refuges across Lincolnshire assisted the website’s development to ensure the right information is available. They all felt that the inclusion of gaslighting and coercion and control was really important. One male survivor who was involved was pleased that myths are addressed in the website’s content.

Other information includes:

• How to help someone you know who is experiencing abuse
• Ensuring your internet search remains private to you
• Advice on domestic abuse issues for Lincolnshire businesses and how to support their workforces

Domestic abuse survivors who supported the website’s development all said they would have left their abusive situations sooner if they had been aware of all of the options.

Arts Project call for participants

A new art project is on the lookout for anyone who might be interested the enigmatic subject of the Neolithic or New Stone Age period in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

This was the age of Long Barrows, lozenge shaped hollow structures made and used by tribes of hunters who came together to celebrate the cycle of life, over five thousand years ago.

We want to bring members of today’s community together as one to create art that fires the imagination and honours our Neolithic heritage.
